A portrait of Frasquita Larrea, painted by the local artist Francisco José Cabillas, has been donated to the Museum. The delegate of Cultura Pepa Vela, the director of the Museum, Jesús Romero and the author of the work, Francisco José Cabillas, attended the media just in the place where, from now on, will be exposed this portrait.

It should be recorded that Frasquita Larrea (Cádiz 1775-Puerto de Santa María 1838), lived the most of her time in Chiclana, where she was influenced by the romantic Germans and the feminist thought of Mary Wollstonecraft.

On 7th April a successful conference about Maria Zambrano was held at the museum. The talk was given by Josela Maturana, and it was the last of the scheduled conferences dedicated to the temporary exhibition “Andalusian Values, with Andalucia in the pocket”.

The event was attended by the Delegate of Development and Employment, Carmen Jimenez and the director of the Museum, Jesús Romero. This conference has also been part of the events celebrating the woman's day.

Last Friday 18th March took place at the Museum a conference entitled “Retratada, retratista, autorretratada” given by Jesús Romero. The main protagonist is the woman and her presence in the history of painting, as Frida Kahlo, Sofonisba Anguissola or Artemisia Gentileschi.

This has been one of the activities of the exhibition “Mujer y Cultura”.
