Preparations to host the exhibition “Vox Clamantis. Arte e historia de la Iglesia Mayor de San Juan Bautista. 1814 – 2014” have started.

Museo de Chiclana begins this week with the dismantling and preparation of the temporary rooms that will host the exhibition dedicated to the Bicentenary of the Main Church and organized by the city council and San Juan Bautista Church.

In this way, the temple which was designed by Torcuato Cayón and finalized by Torcuato Benjumeda, will be the indisputable subject of the last two months of the year in the Museum de Chiclana, occupying the hall and two temporary showrooms since the 6th November until the 12th January 2015.

The title of the exhibition "VOX CLAMANTIS. Arte e historia en la Iglesia Mayor de San Juan Bautista. 1814-2014 "wants to emphasise the cult of San Juan Bautista, patron saint of Chiclana, which is dedicated to the Main Parochial Church. "Ego vox clamantis in deserto" the Baptist answered to the Pharisees.

About 70 pieces, from various provenances, will be distributed along a script that will break down the history of the temple, focusing on the Neoclassicism and its own construction, looking into the patrimonial Heritage and ending with iconography of San Juan Bautista.

Paintings, original drawings, documents, sculptures, liturgical ornaments and some models will contextualize this exhibition that focuses on the XIX century passing through the history of the Main Church.

Different institutions, including the Ayuntamiento de Chiclana, Junta de Andalucía, Museo de Cádiz or the Obispado de Cádiz, join forces to bring in the Museo de Chiclana, in the proximity of the Main Church, the principal milestones in the construction of the temple, which was begun on the remains of the old gothic church, its 200 years of life and its own artistic heritage.
