The municipal Delegate of Culture, Susana Rivas, inaugurated the temporary exhibition '2003+20', an exhibition with which we commemorate some relevant events that took place twenty years ago in our town.
The VII Centenary, of course, of an uninterruptedly populated Chiclana. But, linked or not to that event, in 2003 another series of things took place: it was also, for example, the year in which the Bullfighting Museum opened its doors to the public; it was the year in which, at the Trade Fair, we learned for the first time about the streetcar; it was the year in which we enjoyed, with more awareness than ever, the local sacred art with "Estelas de Piedad"; it was the year in which the Briones House opened its doors to welcome the beginning of the works of the Museum of the city; it was the year in which we celebrated the centenary of the birth of the illustrious José Marín from Chiclana; it was the year in which we saw, for the first time here and live, the pictorial work of Vasallo? It was a year that still lasts.
These simple testimonies of 2003, now gathered here, are the fruit of Pepe Verdugo's perseverance and perseverance in the love he has for his land. A 'feeling in Chiclana' that we can now enjoy through the pieces that make up this exhibition sewn by a discreet narrative thread: tickets, magazines, hand programs, catalogs, posters, invitations, photos, videos, objects, etc..
Always grateful, Verdugo feels that "Collaborating with the Municipal Museum, commemorating an event such as the VII Centenary in 2023, is a dream that any lover of Chiclana's things longs to enjoy. From that militancy of 'feeling in Chiclana' this exhibition I take it as a prize of which I believe I have no more merit than that love for my life, for my people, for my city. The rest - gathering, collecting brochures, news, photographs, papers, magazines or newspapers - is only anecdotal, it is only giving free rein to history, to traditions, to the memory of our people, to the land that has seen me born and grow up."
