“Music Through the Eyes II: Art and Jazz,” a new exhibition at the Chiclana Museum

Thursday, October 8, 2026 - 10:01
The municipal delegate for Culture, Susana Rivas, and the exhibition’s curator, Paco López, inaugurated the exhibition “Music Through the Eyes II: Art and Jazz,” which will be on view through November 15 at the Chiclana Museum. It is a visual journey through great works of music via the creations of renowned visual artists, who transformed the album covers into works of art.

“We’re kicking off October with the second part of the ‘Art and Rock’ exhibition, once again with music taking center stage,” said Susana Rivas, who emphasized that “album covers are true works of art, beyond the songs themselves.”
For his part, Paco López noted that “the idea came from the ‘Hidden Museum’ initiative, in which people who had paintings in their homes participated in exhibitions. Well, I have a lot of records at home, and I wanted to highlight the artists behind the covers.” “The goal is that in two years we’ll be able to do another exhibition on the blues and, later on, one featuring photographs,” he said.

So, even though we all have paintings on our walls at home, there are also other hidden works of art that we don’t appreciate as much simply because they’re part of an album cover. With the advent of CDs, DVDs, and other formats, vinyl records fell out of favor, ending up abandoned in some corner of the house, given away, or thrown in the trash. Now, fortunately, vinyl has made a highly successful comeback.
That’s why it’s important to bring them back into the spotlight—to remember them and so that new generations can see the wonderful covers of those records that once were part of our lives. These covers are, in fact, true works of art, as many were created by renowned artists, as seen in the previous exhibition on rock music, featuring majestic works by Roger Dean, Bob Dylan, Máximo and Benito Moreno, and Andy Warhol. Many of these covers helped sell what was inside—which was often of lower quality than the packaging itself. They were the albums’ best advertisement.

It’s worth noting that this exhibition is the second installment of Paco López’s initiative, which began two years ago with “Art and Rock.”
